A little way down the country road as Miss Gulch pedals away, Toto pokes his head out of her wicker basket and escapes from her clutches - he jumps out as she rides off unaware. He scurries back to the farm and jumps into the window of Dorothy's bedroom to be embraced and hugged tightly (where Dorothy sits crying next to her bed).

Fearing that Miss Gulch will return to claim Toto, and realizing how inadequate and weak her guardians (Uncle Henry and Auntie Em) are in her life, Dorothy immediately decides to take control of her own destiny. Dorothy immediately decides run away from home with Toto:

"They'll be coming back for you any minute. We've got to get away. We've got to run away."

Without hesitation, she swiftly packs her suitcase and they trudge down the lonely country dirt road together to find a better world away from the farm.

That's probably the scariest moment in the movie when her face suddenly appears in the crystal ball.

Yes, she is locked up in the Witch's castle. I would cry too.

She started crying, prior to the witch appearing on the hourglass.
