Yes, barbecued eel. It looks opposite to yummy for me.

I love eel, although I've never had it in Laos. I ate it in Korea many times during my travels there. The most extreme thing that I've ever ate was a Korean soup called bosintang, which is dog soup.

Some people eat dog and cat dishes in Laos too.

It's sad that Laos has come to this, particularly for animal lovers who consider them as pets and not a delicacy, but then again eating dogs and cats is normal in Asia where no animal that has meat is spared.

Just have to feel sorry for poor Laotians of limited means

That is some Korean friend you have. A typical Laotian wouldn't bring a foreign friend to a restaurant to eat meals of that nature. Or we would generally ask first if dogs and cats was something they'd like to try.

Steam it with soy sauce untill 90% sauce gone. Then, fry it with garlic, green onion and many other spices, esp red little raw chilly.  All done, no one on the table cares about religion, belief, bla bla. Everyone only cares about iced beer lao available? Then, action. ;D ;D ;D

The meat rankings: yellow dog, black dog, dark dog. white one.

Well according to Barack Hussein Obama, pitbull is delicious with soy sauce!

In Korea, there's a distinction between dogs that are raised as pets and those for human consumption. Korea's most revered dog is the Jindo, which is medium-sized, double-coated spitz-type dog. No one would ever think about eating it, plus this breed is a Korean National Treasure. Not too mention, it's the breed that I own.

I'm known as pretty adventurous foodie. My Lao friends back in Minnesota made squirrel and bear laab without telling me what it was. The bear was good, but i wasn't too fond of the squirrel. Yesterday, I bought ostrich and kangaroo at the market.

Eel or snake I just don't like the way they look. :)

Probably both because it's traditionally a Buddhist ceremony.

Monks are also involved in the making of the rocket firework and people go to temples to make offerings.

Aha...Pre-USA time, native Americans over here get together in a circle and do raindances to serve the same purpose.  I think they still do this as a part of native American cultural get togehter or events.
