Domestic waste is collected on a weekly basis in Vientiane. The service costs 30,000 kips ($3.50 USD) per month.

Not everybody can afford the hefty price of '30,000 kips ($3.50 USD) per month'. Some ignite their's. Parts of Vientiane looks like a dystopian slum! Very uninviting. :-[

Thank you very much for posting these Adminstrator.  Very useful information about Vientiane and by which I would to know more about.

Let's say I have a house in Vientiane (middle class), I definitely have to pay for garbage service, electricity, telephone satellite, water and property tax.  Can you give me a ball park of monthly charges on these if you would know?

For $3.5 a month. What a great deal. They just need bigger truck. How much is monthly bill for electricity?

Yes, a few dollars a month is nothing worth yelling and screaming about.

Electricity bills vary between different household use and size. But on average for Vientiane, around $20 US a month is considered reasonable.

If all of your bills total $30 - $40 US a month, that's not too expensive.

$20 is still a deal cost of living in Laos is cheaper then the US. Thats why many Lao expats want to retire in Laos. Here in the states water, natural gas, garbage, electricity is around $250-$350 a month, and cost more if you have a bigger house.

I was watching the news. Tiger Wood have a big masion in Florida and it cost him around $50,000 a month just for property taxes alone. Wow
:o ::)

That's quite a alot of expenses. Homes in Laos are not equipped with natural gas. If you want gas, you need to buy the stove and gas tank at the shops.

Tiger Woods always has money in the bank to pay his bills, he is making more from endorsement than he does playing golf.

How do you know this, mate?

I thought any jobs in Laos would be snapped up double-quick, especially  BY ethnic Lao.

Sadly many jobs go to foreign. Some company also bring their own worker. Government say there's around 250,000 illegal immigrant working in Laos.

Why isn't the government doing anything about these '250,000' aliens, then?
Why are they taking all our jobs?

I has the same question. Government say they're trying to crackdown, but action speak louder then word. Most of this worker are Chinese or Vietnamese.

Maybe the 'Chinese' and 'Vietnamese' are the problems and it's them that needs to go. The illegal ones anyway.

Doesn't matter what nationality, but government should crackdown on all illegal. Most are honest hard worker, but some are criminal, robber, drug dealer. They has to keep track and know who's coming in and out.
