Vientiane is the capital of Laos. Most areas still looks like a countryside for foreigners.

Sleeping is something to do, for these men anyway.   :)

Very common here in the US.  Any city and town from every underpass and street corners, we see these individuals that choose to have this type of lifestye.  Even in Washington DC and not just Vientiane.

Are these homeless people or people just taking a nap?
:o

Some of those men are homeless.

We see a mixture of homeless and normal individuals take naps in Vientiane. If business is slow during the day, some people take a nap.

Laos is known for lay back and easy going. In America work work and time is money. You want something you has to work hard for it.

Where do the homeless 'live'?
This is a very interesting subject.

I think these photos are staged. Whoever choreographed these photographs is clearly an amateur. Take the guy with the water pistol for instance: there is no way he can nap with his arm erect and still clutching his 'gun' while unconscious.

The photographer tells me that he doesn't know any of them.

The homeless live on the streets, or sleep at a temple during the night.

You should help them since you are well-off.
Aren't you?

A BMW AND a servant. It doesn't get more 'haang' than that.
Or does it?

Some people are poor themselves. They can't help other. Some of the homeless people might be drug addicted or have mental problem. There're many reason for homelessness. I don't think government have any social program to help homeless people. It's like that everywhere in the world nobody care about you when you're poor.

In Asia if you're poor that's your problem. It's hard to moved up the ladder or out of poverty if you don't have connection or born rich. Not like Western nation anybody can go to college and find a good paying jobs and out of poverty.

I has relative in Laos some are poor farmer and some are rich, but they don't seem to help each other. I send them money all the time.

You and your brother must be part of the older generation that ACTUALLY has any ties to Laos. It's good that you guys are helping out 'pi-nong' like that. That's what family is for.
As for me, personally, I don't really contribute as much as I should. Maybe once or twice a year I'll help my 'pi-nong' out. I have TOO many! There's always something that needs fixing or SOMEONE that needs fixing. My olds don't mind though, as long as they don't gamble it all away and don't haul all their hard-earned to the 'wong-pai'. ;D

I'm in my early 30's and left Laos at 11. I still had strong ties with Laos, but some new generation doesn't because they're born here, buy they are proud to be Lao. Some of our relative are rich so we only help the poor one. They're poor but have house and farm. Sometime they alway ask for money.

I'm a lucky one. I'm not a refugees and never been to Siamese refugees camp. Heard a horrible story on how Siamese treat some Lao, Viet, Khmer refugee like animals. My relative sponsor me in 1990.

Yes you are lucky! I can't believe the 'comies' let you out of jail (Laos) that easily. Do think I could sponsor some of my cousins so they can come and work? Better than fulfilling the peasants fate, dont you think?

Maybe the admin' can answer this one. I know she's spying on us. She's always eavesdropping. :) ;) :D ;D

I'm not sure now. I think you can still sponsor, but in the US it take about 10 year to bring relative. But it's easier if they just come visited for a month.

Living in Laos I never has problem with Commies or been in jail. I was a kids living a normal live. They don't bother you as long as you don't get involve in politics or talking about it. In Laos Life is pretty good and simple if you have money. That's why many Lao expats build house and retired there.

For a simple mind would think is a fabricating, for me I say..thinking ahead... The picture is telling a lot.. The backpack, the brown paper and the drinking bottle. Laos don't pack excessive food for lunch like the west(so they won't have any left after eating them). their income is limited! and it's Lunch time!

Larb Dip, I don't understand you. You act like you are really proud about being Lao, but at the same time you just make fun of it. Why is this?

Is it something left over from your parents/uncles/aunts hating on Laos because of the shit that happened back in the 60s/70s? The government may not be that great, but the people are really nice, and Vientiane is actually a really nice town once you get used to all the dust. Also the traffic compared to Bangkok is much better. :D

Anyway, I'm not trying to call you out, I just don't understand how you can be proud of being Lao, but at the same time hate on what appear to be poor/homeless people sleeping during the day (for what it's worth a lot of homeless people sleep during the day because it's safer/less cold than sleeping at night).

Yes we all need money. For clothes, medical, paying for school, gas and so on. In Laos there's no socials program to help poor or low income like here in the states. If you lucky to get a jobs they pay about $100 a month in Laos. Sending money home or vacation there is a good way to help Laos economy.
:)

Alright, since you're as curious as the next guy (your sidekick Willy) in regards to the circumstances surrounding Yours Truly, I will supply you with the FACTUAL particulars:

I am in my 20's. (But you found that out by clicking on my profile, didn't you?).

The highest achievement that you will find listed in my resume is a measly trade certificate. It doesn't matter though, because I'm still the BOSS! My FRIENDS too are BOSSES like me! We all attended the same trade schools together. (Yes, I have real physical FRIENDS; not just cyber buddies like the admin' ;)) One of my FRIENDS has connections with a construction company. He may quote a job for $400,000; but he offloads it to me for $300,000, That's $100,000 for him for doing nothing! I have 3-4 projects going on at any given time. You do the math. I also have other FRIENDS who I subcontract off to (I use the same siphoning-off ploy my construction FRIEND uses on me). I make $200,000 - $300,000 a year. Where do you think I get the money to pay pu-sao $180/hour? Why would I hate my job? I don't do any REAL 'work', per se.

So you already know how much free time I have. All I do is 'kick-it' with my FRIENDS, all day, every day. They too are BOSSES like me and have all day to kill.
What do you do by the way? Are you a forklift driver like Willy?5555555

Look, I know what it's like being poor. Contrary to what you think, I never look down on my own people. My parents were peasants, They don't come poorer than that!
But we are blessed!

I know where I belong, I don't need to explain to anybody about that!

I have already 'tweeted', that this is only a pastime for me.

STOP DESCRIBING YOUR OWN MISERABLE LIFE :'(

Here's a quote from a hypocrite we all know. No names necessary. Reading his prose is enough of a dead giveaway:

It this going to be the only way to survive. Don't we have any shame? to just beg for money? I am ashamed to be Lao! you sound like very proud every time you give us these type of news!

I am glad that I have push the right button on you! This is the only way to make your show your true colour!!!!! 555555555555555

your are full of bad gas...Showing off people how much you make is a child desperately want to be approve by their friends...Sorry mate...I can't be your mate..and I also don't chose my friend by their races or their education certainly not by how much money that they make.I have a son as old as you but his attitude toward the same human being is more superior than you.

When is come to my age...We don't measure how much money do we make and what kind of sport car do you drive.....
We measure by how many investment properties and shares do you have?

You call you self a peasant son...but the way you look down on William profession as a forklift driver is way too narrow minded. William may not be a forklift drive in this warehouse..he maybe the owner of the warehouse and he could be making more than you!

My conclusion are:

1,Paying just $180 for sex, that telling me is a low class of prostitute,I pay at least 3 time more than that and that mean you are lie about your earning!

2,A contract that worth $300k and you pay $100k that is more than 33% of the contract price to your friend. Surely you have to pay for the materials, workers, you and the insurance... The way you do business.Umm...That why you can only afford to pay for low class of prostitute.

3,You are still the loser that I have mention before... stop lying...you action is like" a dog chasing his own tail" it will not get you noway but embarrassing your self!

Tee is being straight forward and honest about what he sees, I agree with most of what he said especially about your personality.  It's not nice looking down on people or making assumptions about them.  I know for a fact kids in their 20's or even older generation parents as well tend to show off their financial assets (cars, homes, etc) to their family and friends, and talk about each behind their backs.  Many Lao family have that kind of attitude here in America.  How do I know this?  My own mother,  my relatives, her friends and their friends,etc... are like that. It all comes down to saving face BS.  They lie so much they even start to believe in their own lies, it's sad but true.

Larb Dip and Tee Remember begging and asking are two different meanings in my view. Begging, is someone that refuses to change their ways of life and take what they can get. Asking, is someone that has a will/goal to change and improve their livelihood and even though not always guaranteed(lack of education).  Which is it for the nation of Laos?

How much do you pay these models?

Where can I find them?

Lao Democratic, I'm about 163cm (5'4") tall. I'm probably a bit lighter-skinnned than her, but she is definately not dark either.

Larb Dip, I don't pay anyone. The photographers deal with that.

That's quite short; but average for Lao women. I imagined you to be around 175cm (5'9") and upwards.

Looks can be deceiving.

I'm not above 170cm, unless maybe if I wear high heels. Most European girls are probably not even 175cm (5'9").

I haven't measured myself for a while but I'm 163cm - 164cm at the most, that's not short by any means.

What is short then - In Laos?

I never came across a female - in Laos - over 170cm.

Also, I noticed that they all like that deprived famished look. The stick-figure look isn't quite my thing. Is that what they strive for? Maybe it's just a lack of protein. They (most of them) did, however, have cute faces!

How much do you weigh?

You have lack of respect for women and people in general in this forum or anywhere else.  Let alone you say you make $$$ year and spent $180/hr on women.  You lie to yourself and all the sudden you start to believe it huh? That is all you care about is getting laid?  You are a disgraceful human being.  You are not even Lao you are a waste of air.

You're city girl that's why you had light skin. 5'4" is pretty tall for Lao women. Plus you gal got high heels too.

I'm also 5' 4", but male so I'm short in Britain but pretty average for a male here in Laos.

Why doesn't my standing up picture with my dog show as my avatar?  I've sent it two times and it is a JPG file.

Maybe someone at Lao Pride could do it for me.

Yes, 5'4" is the average height for guys in Laos. And the average height for girls is probably 5'2".

Well, I'm 5'4" which means that I'm about the same height as many guys and girls in Laos, if not taller than most of them, so I'm very surprised at being called short.

Maybe because of the weather, lack of vitamin and proteins. That's why some people in Lao, Asian country are short. Some Lao-American, Asian-American kids are pretty tall. About 5'8", 5'9" or taller.
:o

Well, the Lao-Americans at 5'8" are only about 10 centimetres taller than me, that's not much of a difference.

Look, man. This is how you lohm pusao these days. I have no doubts that if you and your buddy hadn't donated your 2 cents' worth, that nang would have answered me back. She's not as innocent as you think. I even asked her if she was a bar girl. She got upset; but after realizing I meant no offense, we made up, and that's that.
Check the annals to see how she keeps it real. She even exposes Laos' underbelly for what it really is! No bs, check right now. Go back a couple of years even.

There are alot of women out there who admire MATURE men, who confidently and without shame, discuss adult topics freely. Even more so in Laos (trust me, I know). There is no subject taboo enough for Larb Dip. When the time is right, I will even ask a women if she shaves her pubic hairs or not!. That too, is no bs. That gentlemen approach has long since been outdated! I wouldn't expect old timers like yourselves to know though.

The world over knows how much sht Lao women love to talk against each other. We don't need to be lectured on it.
What are you doing? Why are you too talking sht about your own family? You're just as bad! Where's the loyalty in that?

I can tell just by looking at you, you too are a meat-beater (like every other male in the world). I'm not here to judge you on your misfortunes. You need to take that up with your parents. You resemble one of them, right?
I'm not really vain and don't take people at face-value in person. I can't just let you get shots off without retaliating. So don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud.

Only the older generation calls me "nang" in Laos, I've never had a young guy call me "nang" before.

Young guys who don't know me will call me "nong sao" or "eay" depending how old they are.

All this from some old guy who thinks that prostitutes have 'class'. All this from some old guy who has to fork out $540 just to 'spew his yoghurt'. If you have to PAY someone $540 just for quick sex, it doesn't say much about your wife, does it? ;D

Being honest is better then lying to oneself right?  I was being honest with you and everyone else using my parents and others as an example...that is not talking smack.  Talking smack is when you lie about your parents when it's not true.  For example, in your situation...you lied by exaggerating on what you do for a living and how much you spend ($180/hr)to get laid.  In regards to your conversation with the "Pusao", only works on sluts/whores.

You don't need to be 'honest' about anything. We (Lao) know what our women are like. But I tip my hat off to you for keeping it real. Whenever I talk about the underbelly in our Lao culture, I upset everybody on this forum. Maybe it's just the way it comes out. Maybe I'm TOO direct. I, too, like to speak my mind.

There you go, just like the 'other' guy (who's name I have taken an oath not to utter), so cynical. How do you know I'm 'exaggerating' anything I divulged in the relevant post? How do you really 'know'? I only did so, because the 'other' guy, had me profiled as a antisocial reclusive. A stereotype which he still holds at this time. Obviously I can't change yours or anybody else's perceptions. That's a given. So I wont even try to convince you otherwise. Believe what you want. You have already described how you and your kin enjoy those make-believe games.

In reality that WAS the going rate at the moment in BROTHELS over here. It just went up, along with GST. I'm not looking to pick up some stray btch off the side walk, who could possibly have aids, among other venereal diseases. I also like to make love on a bed; not on a bed of leaves.

As for when I lohm pusao, I have no problems getting a certain pusao on this website to answer my questions. They're not as indecent as you think. However, I don't think that this nang would appreciate you labeling her as 'sluts/whores'. By the way, I don't really conversate with 'sluts/whores'. The only real dialogue that's really exchanged are the greetings and farewells. There are, however, 'sound effects' that are shrieked within that time frame, but all that moaning doesn't really count, does it?

I don't think you have anyone to cuddle up to at night. It's okay. You, too, can go to brothels like me and the 'other' guy. We are all adults here. You won't be judged, not by us anyway.

I really do enjoy my 'playboy' lifestyle. That too, is no bs!
