Title: Lao Language Learning
Post by jerryy on 18th May, 2010 at 3:18am
I am relatively new to Lao, I moved to Vientiane about a month and a half ago and recognize that I am at a disadvantage not knowing the language. This is the first country I've lived in where I am unfamiliar with the spoken language or writing system. I am fluent in both English (native language) and Japanese and can read a smattering of Chinese, Spanish and Korean. Can anyone assist me in finding a good, private Lao language teacher? I want it to be as academic approach as possible with literacy and some fluency and not "kitchen Lao" or phrases only...any suggestions out there?
Thanks

Welcome to Laos. There is a Buddhist monk in his early twenties who is prepared to teach anyone Lao language, and in return he wants to learn English. I forgot to ask for his phone number but he is at Dongpalane temple.

Revolution Translation Centre in Vientiane may also have some contacts.

If you do go with people, be closed with them, listen them you will learn easily.
Or find a friend , a girl friend why not, and you will improve your language.
For sure it's an other way to live in Laos when you do understand Lao language.I do learn it by myself, day after day, i'm not so fluent but i enjoy so much to talk with people and family.   ;)
