Have you been to Issan, have friends or relative there? There are over 22 million Lao people living in Issan, but only 6 million in Laos.

I still have relative in Udon Thani. Going to village in Issan is no different then going to village in Laos.

Issan is the poorest and most populate region in Thailand. Bangkok government know Lao people live there  that's why they keep Issan poor, and underdeveloped. They don't want Issan going back to Laos or Issan run Thai government, and control Thailand.

Laos should ask Vietnam to help take Issan territory back. Then Laos will be powerful enough to kick Vietnam out of  Laos later. Just kidding heheh 8-)

There are rich people and poor people in Issan, it depends what they are doing in their life. I don't have any poor relatives in Issan, they are all rich.

So you're suggesting that Laos should use Vietnam, then stab them in the back.

Most Issan are still poor. That's why red shirt protest and burn down Bangkok. Many has no choice but to work in sex industry. I want to see Lao people worldwide unite. Issan and Laos as one country. Strength in number. Laos and Issan as one country would double Laos territory and population from 6.8 million to about 30 million strong Laotian. Yes I also want to see 75,000 Vietnam troop to get out of Laos too.

We can wish, and we can dream, but Issan and Laos won't be one country again.

We have enough poor people in Laos, we don't need millions more.

Sometime dream do come true. Let wait and see. Civil in Thailand might broke out any day now. Some in Issan, in Chaing Mai want independent from Bangkok rule. I wish them luck. That's also why muslim in the South are fighting Bangkok government. They want independent too.

I think Vietnam don't want Laos to unite with Issan because it's easier to control 6.8 million Lao people then 30 million. Nothing personal just politics.

It's not that Vietnam doesn't want Laos to unite with Issan. Issan doesn't want to unite with Laos themselves.

I don't see any people living in Issan waving the Lao flag around. They love their King, and everytime they visit Laos they are wearing "I love Thailand" t-shirts or they have an emblem in honor to the King of Thailand. They don't want anything to do with Laos.

Most do love the king but not everybody, that is why red shirt from Issan protest. They waving former PM Thaksin picture and T-shirt because he help Lao people in Issan. They love Thaksin and want him to come back. Rich in Bangkok discriminate against Lao people in Issan. That how its in the world not just in Thailand, rich look down on poor. If talk bad about Thai King they will jail you up to 15 year. Waving Laos flag around in Thailand probably get you kill. Thai government don't like Socialist. Nothing personal just politics. Lao were not allow to speak or write in Laos language. Thailification and brainwashing. If I was brainwash like that all my life. I probably love Thai king and wave Thai flag too.

You can wave the Lao flag in Thailand, but it depends where you wave it. In your private home shouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't go waving it around in front of their military or King.

Some red shirt people love Thaksin and some don't really care. They are really just doing it for the money because they get paid to participate in the protest. None of the red shirts will involve themselves in the rally if they received nothing.

Its about rich vs poor. I hope red shirt win election so Lao people in Issan, Puea Thai Party can be in power so they can run Thailand and Thai government again. Life was better for Lao in Issan when they were in power. Yellow Bangkok can't beat red shirt in election. Issan has the largest voting population in Thailand. Go red shirt, UDD, PTP. Lao worldwide stand up and united.

I wish red shirt luck on the next election. Everthing was better in Thailand when red was in power. Red shirt has supporter throughout Thailand, and supporter in Bangkok. Many Lao live and work in Bangkok. There are more Lao speaker in Bangkok then in Laos. About 40% of Thailand population are LAO about 25 million.

If Laos have an election in the future, I don't want voting to be compulsory because I don't want to vote.

This may seem funny but there are Lao people who do not even know the name of our current President and Prime Minister. This is because we only see them in the media once in a while, and people can't get involved in politics.

If you can vote. You can elect new government. If current one is doing a bad
job, but same in the US. Not everbody
vote, about 35% of the people don't, some
don't care about politics, especially young
people. They worry more about fun and
partying. Lao people never has a to chance vote. Our great country is alway under control of foreign power.

You're right. Most of the people don't care about politics. They worry more about putting food on the table, jobs and opportunity.

Since I've been around a while, after bombs, bullets, leaky boat, financial crisis and a lot of how great our country and people is, we must this and we must that, I can only speak for my feeling:
1.Ask North Vietnamese for help and want them get out later ? you have a read of their history and check their teritory 300 years ago and now, you will sincerely and truely love Thai king, because they've treat you guys so well and at least some of you're rich. Oh also check how the few millions that they claim they're Vietnamese and infact they are Cambodians.
2. Me no die for any country or people, all bloody lies and damn lies, if U don't like it, get out and pick another country to live in, then come back with a few dollars, they will treat you better that their own parents or leaders, you're not die for your country or people, you're manupilated to die for the cause for them to stay in power and make money.
3. You only have 1 live, think of your poor parents before you sacrify yourself for the great country of yours, I know 1 thing for sure, no one give a damn about your parents, so use your only life wisely.

Vietnam was ask to help, but not to colonize and trying to take over Cambodian and Laos. That is what happen when you make a deal with a devil. Now it's time for them to get out of Laos. UN will not let them take over Laos that easily  its not that simple.

I haven't been to Issan but I have read some books by Burdett and Moore about the Issan girls in Thailand.  According to them most of the prostitutes in Thailand are from Issan.  Is that true. They say the girls are quite heroic the way they take care of their families who are very poor by taking jobs in the sex trade in Thailand.  I wonder is it true what they say or not.  You I am sure are in a much better position than I to know.

That true many Issan are poor, work as low paying jobs and as sex worker in Bangkok. Issan is the least developing region in Thailand. Human nature people have to do whatever to survive. when there is less job and opportunity even working in sex industry.

I have visited both Laos and Issan and there are obvious similarities due to your common histories but Issan was successfullyincorporated into the Thai state during the Vietnam War period. Many Issan are ignorant that they even have a Lao heritage and have no inclination to stop being Thai. Certainly many Esarn would like more influence within the Thai State but there is little pan-Lao enthusiasm. Rather than hope for their return to Laos why not go beyond lao nationalism and work for a pan-Tai confederation bringing all the Tai peoples together in the region under a representative federal government?

Just a thought as you have so much in common. Your differences are exaggerated by your rulers who have powerful vested interests in the status quo.

In the past Laos was invaded and exploit by foreigner power. Majority of Issan is ethnic Lao. About 20 million. Issan was Laos territory. United we stand divided we fall. Laos and Issan was divided by the French and Siam.

I am a bit confused about the Nong Khai / Vientienne split.

Also confused why 2 of the 3 ancient drums are in Thailand and 1 in Laos.

Also confused as to the Issues of Chieng Saen.

also, confused about Easarn as Easarn is Laos and Khmer (Cambodian).

What are you confuse about? Let me explain. There are over 22 million ethnic Lao living in Thailand, but less then 4 million in Laos. Northeast Thailand, Isan region was Laos territory until 1907 when Thailand annexed. French give Isan to Thailand and Laos has no say in 1907. Back then Laos was part of French Indochina.

i bet the lao king sold the land to the french because thats usually how colonist work, they come into the land, give a very huge lump of money to the king or queen for that land and colonize it. of course some colonist take land by force but due to the fact that the french gave it away to thailand probably means they have the right which goes back to what i stated as they bought the land cuz i mean colonist like the french are quite technical and even if they did take land by force they made someone sign something. believe it white men are smart when it comes to taking things. anyway issan sounds like a nice vacation place wouldn't you say  ;D hahaha
