Title: Luang Namtha Photographs
Post by Kees5 on 11th Aug, 2010 at 7:37am
For the past 8 years, i have been making a photographic documentary on the ethnic diversity in Luang Namtha  province.

You can see my photographs on my website:
http://www.kees.zenfolio.com

Feedback welcome, here or on my site.

I hope that this will be of some service especially those Lao people who are now living outside the country.

MAGNIFICENT PHOTOGRAPHS!

I am interested in the season you visited. Judging by picture quality I am unsure what ISO and F stops you used to compensate for weather situation.

Nonetheless, all very nicely capture :)

--edit: never mind I saw some of your data details on photo.

Season?  Well, I suppose over th past 8 years I've been there just about every season, Hot season, rainy season and 'cool' season. My preference is january/february, because of the relatively cool daytime, which is more attractive if you get into physical exercise such as trekking. But every season has it's own attractions. The wet season the rice fields are wonderful. the hot season you have festivals such as Pimai Lao and Boon Bang fai, the rocket festival.
I found many of the ceremonies I photographed took place in the cool season, when people aren't busy planting or harvesting rice.

Thank you for your comments.

i just had to post again after viewing your photos.

i applause the bond you were able to establish with the natives. emotions captured during private moments are priceless. and for them to trust u and let you photo them even when they arent posing but just doing daily chores.

not to mention being so patient while you adjust your camera settings/lenses.... that speaks allot.

u did an outstanding job of capturing their life in all its wonder.
