Some say there are 1 million, some say 2 million Vietnamese immigrant in Laos. I don't think they'll reported it in the news.

There's definately less than a million of them in Laos, but the top three towns with the biggest population of Vietnamese people are Thakhek, Savannakhet and Vientiane region.

There are many mixed Lao-Vietnamese, and Vietnamese who can speak very fluent Lao throughout the country, so sometimes they are mistaken as a Lao person.

i think many of them are illegal. why a vietnamese want to live in laos when they fought so hard and so many died to free vietnam from america is beyond my understanding.

Less then a million is not bad. But that's still a lot and don't forget about the illegal. If 2 million or more is scary that mean in the future Lao might become a minority in Laos.

Good question. I think they should stay in their own country. In the news they say there were 200k illegal worker in Laos, but they didn't say what nationality. Probably most of them are Chinese and Vietnamese immigrant. Not much Lao can do Vietnam is overpopulated and too powerful.

In 21st century to take over a country first they come as a friends, and allies then they move in their population. Only time can tell let see 100-200 year from now. What Laos will be like. If Laos still exist on the world maps.

The Vietnamese are in Laos to seek more opportunities and a better way of life, so lets give them that chance.

There's still alot of Lao people wherever you go, I don't think that Lao people will ever become a minority in our own country.

Out of 6.8 million population in Laos 55% are ethnics Lao that's about 3.74 million Lao. The rest 3.06 million are ethnics minority like Chinese, Hmong, Mien, Khmu, Thai, Viet, Khmer. Let say 1 million Vietnamese immigrated to Laos that'll put minority in Lao at 4.06 million = 3.06m + 1m. These 4.06 million minority will have more children in the future. In other word 3.74 million ethnics Lao is already a minority in Laos.

In my opinion maybe democracy might not work in Laos because ethnics Lao will not have enough votes to stay in power, and run the government. In democracy country the power go to the majority.

"Vietnamese are seeking better opportunity in Laos." Well so is Lao people. If 3 million more Vietnamese want to come to Laos. Should Lao government let them? Many Lao have college degree and can't find jobs. Maybe if there's more opportunity for young Lao in Laos, then they don't have to go to Thailand looking for work. Government have to regulated and limit, they cannot let everybody in. About 200,000 illegal worker are already in Laos that mean 200,000 Jobs go to foreigner instead of Lao people.

In U.S there about 12 million illegal immigrant. The real number is probably around 15+ million. Can you imagine how many immigrant will come to the U.S if government don't crackdown. The number might be up to 30 million illegal if American government don't crackdown like Laos.

Ethnicity isn't really that important. No one is 100% Lao, because we were ruled by many countries back in ancient times and alot of the Khmers and Siamese settled here. We are also seeing many mixed Lao-French people from the French colonisation of Laos.

Americans have their ethnic roots from another country, such as yourself. Australians and New Zealanders are descendants of British prisoners, also with many European/Asian immigrants. If the Vietnamese immigrate to Laos then they are a part of the Lao society, just like you are accepted and a part of America.

You are right LP Admins. Laos was alway under the control of foreign power. Not much we can do. Vietnam is too powerful and control Lao government. They got 85 million people. We only has 6.8 million in Laos. I just hope Laos don't get overrun by Vietnamese immigrant. If Lao government allow 3-5 million more will come in. Every year how many more immigrate to Laos? Nobody know because there's no freedom of press or speech to report on this matter. They don't want us to have democracy so they can control and brainwash us. Just like robots we has no say, they say walk we walk, they say good, we say good.

American is a melting pot society and land of immigrant. But there's a lot of rule and regulation. It not thats easy. Government put limits on how many immigration can come to the U.S every year. You can't just walk in here and ask for green card or for good paying jobs and education.

Government crackdown on illegal immigrant. U.S deported about 350,000 illegal immigrants a year. Those who committed crimes are deported, and illegal immigrant from Mexico who are caught get send back in 24 hours. Company that's hire illegal worker can get fine and go to prison. Some states illegal can't get driver licens, rent apparment, get free healthcare or go to college. American don't want their country to be overrun by illegal immigrant.

Lao Hello dear!

I am a Vietnam, currently living and working in Vietnam.

I commented on admin's saying is very true, even if everyone lived where they also are equal, because they only survive life but to drift around, Laos is not an exception.

Not every country of Vietnam to Laos, but also many other countries in the world, and of course the people of Laos, too, right? they want to find life more comfortable and complete.

Whatever the country, we see them as people in the community, helping each other and share your hard times.

Glad to meet you:)

P / s: my foreign language skills are very poor, hope you sympathize!

Vietnamese  :D

Living in Laos is find, but flooding the country with immigrant and trying to take over the country is a different story. See how Arab control, and take over North Sudan overtime. How China take over Xianjiang and Tibet and oppressed the local population. Lao government has to limit on immigrant and crackdown on illegal. Not all of them are hard worker seeking better life some are criminals. You have to know who's coming in and out? and how many?

We have to be careful on who we trust, and can't trust nobody. Everybody has their own agenda, and I don't think they have Lao best interest at heart. Look back at the history Laos got screw by everybody. By Thai, China, Vietnam, America.
