The second companion Dorothy meets on her way to The Emerald City is the Tin Man, a tin woodsman who was caught in the rain and rusted solid while chopping wood.
There he stayed for a year until Dorothy came to his aid with a conveniently placed oil can. She bangs on his chest and hears a great big echo, and the Tin Man explains to Dorothy and Scarecrow that he doesn't have a heart.
Dorothy asks the Tin Man if he'd like to accompany her and Scarecrow to see the Wizard in The Emerald City to get a heart. Then suddenly, The Wicked Witch of the West appears on top of the cottage roof.
The witch throws a ball of fire at the Scarecrow to scare him, he catches fire and begins to frantically jump about, and the Tin Man falls on the fire to smother it. She disappears in a cloud of red smoke, then Dorothy and her friends set off down The Yellow Brick Road.
