Anyone with very careful homeworks, skills, the desire, the motivation and determination can come up with a lucrative business in Laos.  As the country will experience more and more human activities, there will be a lot more exchange of money :).

How far is Vang Vieng from Vientaine?

What is the normal speed limit on Route 13 (km/hr)? Is Route 13 a 2 or 4 Lane highway?

Title: Re: Vang Vieng, Laos land of opportunity
Post by Lao Pride Administrator on 12th May, 2011 at 11:29pm
Motorists drive pretty fast on that route. 100 km/hr seems to be the norm.

There's only one lane in each direction of the road because we don't have the funds.

There are at least 500 members in the LP forum.  I wonder somethimes why there are only about half a dozen that are frequently involved in posting replies and comments.

Not many members join in the discussion, but that's not a concern to us.

Our forum still gets a lot of visitors every day though. You'll notice the data at the bottom that there's always guests online. We will continue to provide a good source of information for many years to come, for everyone, whether or not people participate in the actual discussion.

The next major festival is the Boat Racing and Boun That Luang festival, and there's lots of things to look forward to on Lao Pride.

Hello all,
not too sure about the land of opportunity in Laos no matter in what region people are refer to. Only few people would agree to that claim especially those only know very little about the country. For all the believers thing is always not what they seem to be in Laos. for example, happy people is not really happy but they act and speak in that way to fool others. Sure everyone is so eager to see and help Laos  to succeed in the future but people don't understand that the Laos government's political view and ethics is Laos biggest down fall to the poor economy and people struggles. The government can push out all the new project and idea they want but if they do not fix the political system it less than likely the a big change and promise would come for the people for better future.

Only time will tell.

You are very correct about hte one political party system however the pendulum is swinging in a small increment at a time and people change.  Also, you have to remember that the UN is watching Laos right now.

I agreed with you. Laos would have been better off under democracy. But government is opening up and welcome Capitalist. They trying to be like China. Capitalist economy with one party system.

VangVieng is the mess. Bunch of the Crackheads like to be there. Its land of " Yaa Baa" MDMA know as ECSTASY. You can get the drug so easier than buy a candy. I would call this place " Welcome to the land of Yaa Baa". Most the foreigners are from Europe and Cannada, not much from the US.
Beware if you be there, Do not get hook on Yaa Baa "Crazy Drug".

Drugs are everywhere, including alcohol :o.  It's up to an individual to rationalize when is enough, what is good vs bad and right vs wrong.  They really need to crack down on the suppliers.

Laos also have drug problem, but not as bad as Thailand because of small population. Official say there's about 40,000 drug addicted in Vientiane alone. The real number might be higher.

I am talking about Laos. I knew about Thailand.
We(Laos)do not need to follow the Thailand style way of live. We Khonlao should be better than them, very small population in hug land and most of us are smart but why smart in wrong way.

one thing I had learn about our ppl is to easy of every thing in life. Called: Easy people. Don't care. Don't give a damn, is in our blood.

Sex,Drug and Corruption was a major problem in Thailand since the beginning of Siam. Brother killed Brother for thron. History repeated itself all the times.

Our history was suck.......let me ask When did the Lao won the war with the neighbors? Never. Thailand,Cambodia,Vietnam,Burma and do not mention about China...

Comparing to the neighbors we are just a little Baby.

I had seen it all and live to this day.

Lao Lan Xang has the largest empire in southeast Asia. During the time of king Fa Ngum the great. Lan Xang has won many war against Siam, Burmese and Annam. Our downfall is when Lao start to fight among ourself and spread into three kingdom. Lao loss the war and Isan to Thailand in 1906 because Thailand has gun and European war advisor. " Long live Lan Xang."

Chao Fa Ngum disappearanced without trace. And Laos had 3 heads, each head like to bite each other for power. 3 heads represented for North(Luangprabang), central(Vientiane) and South(Chumpasack).
Today 3 heads are representing for Jex,Keow,Lao = 6.5 mil

King Fa Ngum the great was exile and spend the rest of his life in Lanna (Chaing Mai). You have a point about three head biting each other. There were no unity, everybody was for themselves, that's one of our downfall.

All those Siamese/Isaan songs are Laos LXE's tracks.

Everybody knows Crowded House. They are NZs favourite sons (unofficially). Two of their biggest ballads are: 'Better be home soon' and 'Fall at your feet' AND the song you just posted. Those songs are always covered. I'm surprised you know about them. ;D

Alright, since you asked for it, here's a 'english' song from NZ. Old school Kiwi rap. I grew up not far from where most of this video was shot, but have sinced relocated to a more affluent area. I always get nostalgic whenever I see this. I feel like crying. No BS!. :'( :'( :'(This is what you guys in the US call 'ghetto'.

There are no real 'ghettos' in NZ. People just refer to South Auckland as such to portray it with the 'rugged' image it deserves.

Same as the US. I live about 25 minute from Minneapolis, but some called it murdereapolis because crimes rates and murder is the highest in minnesota. About 35-50 people get murder a year there. The city where I live right now they have about 1 murder every 3 or 4 year if I remember.
