Title: Which part of Lao are you from?
Post by Sean Lao on 2nd Nov, 2011 at 1:39pm
Just thought I could get a survey of where everyone is from. Maybe we can surprise each other if we're from the same home town. My family is from Ban Keun, 50km east of Vientane.

How about you?

I'm from the heart of Vientiane city, and Dongpalane is the name of the village/suburb.

You mean Ban Gun, near Ban Boong Paow?

I'm not too sure about the surrounding cities, but it could be Ban Gun. If its 50km east of Vientiane, then that's probably it. I hope to go back after learning more Thai&Lao :D

Ban Keun or Ban Gun, as I like to spell it, is situated north of Vientiane.

I've been to Ban Boong Paow, which is near Ban Gun. The casino is also near those villages.

Good luck with your Lao-Thai language learning.

True.

300 baht is less than $10 US. That's nothing to be disappointed about, for the average gambler.

Hi there, i was in Phongsaly Province in a little village called Mueang Khoua, only people travelling to Vietnam will know it, as its an overnight stop off before the drive across the border.
I was helping out with the UN there, and teaching the kids English, on a voluntary basis.
Lovely people !
Kevin

There must be mainly ethnic minorities in that region of Laos.

It's good for children to learn some English as a second language, it will be useful for them when they grow up.

"Lao nork" is the correct term to use when referring to Laotians overseas.

I don't like the term "khon darng pathet" that many people in Laos still use. I call you guys "Lao nork".
