The Wizard of Oz love heart, Judy Garland (holding a white basket) was 13 years old when she appeared in a short comedy film at MGM with her older sisters called "La Fiesta de Santa Barbara (1935)."

By late 1934 "The Gumm Sisters" changed their name to "The Garland Sisters," the trio sang a traditional Mexican tune called "La Cucaracha" in this 19 minute 3-strip Technicolor film in the summer of 1935, a month before Judy Garland signed a contract with MGM studios. This is also the last performance of The Garland Sisters as a trio, with each sister getting a short solo in the Mexican folk song.

Judy Garland and her sisters cannot speak or understand Mexican language, they sang the song phonetically.

Judy Garland later starred in some classic musical films, and she played Dorothy in the 1939 release of The Wizard of Oz. A musical fantasy movie that won her a special Oscar and gave her a theme song for the rest of her life: "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
