Title: Luang Prabang wins world's best city award
Post by LLXE on 16th Feb, 2012 at 9:20am
Luang Prabang wins world's best city award for 2nd year

Luang Prabang in Laos has just been voted the best city in the world to visit for the second year in a row by readers of one of the UK's leading national travel magazines.

Bamboo Travel winner of the Best Tour Operator of the year category at the same awards ceremony in 2011, and runner up in 2012 offers a choice of itineraries which visits the city including the 12 night A Mekong Experience in Laos

The tour which covers all the highlights of this culturally and scenically diverse country combines the ancient wonders of Luang Prabang and the waterways of northern Laos with the rural beauty of the Bolaven Plateau and the spectacular Wat Phou in the south.

The holiday commences with two nights in Luang Prabang, located on the Mekong River, including a city tour and a visit to the Khouangsi waterfall.

From there the itinerary continues with a four-day loop, travelling by private boat along the waterways of the Mekong, staying in two charming lodges located in some of the most scenic parts of northern Laos.

After returning to Luang Prabang for a day at leisure, a regional flight is taken south to explore the Bolaven Plateau, famous for its coffee plantations and many spectacular waterfalls.

The journey continues overland to the mysterious pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Phou and the Four Thousand Islands before finishing with a night in the tranquil capital Vientiane.

The holiday costs from £2895 pp (two sharing) which includes international and domestic flights, 12 night's B&B plus 7 lunches & 4 dinners, private transfers and tours, private English-speaking guides, private boat journeys on the Mekong and sightseeing as detailed in the itinerary.

I don't take any notice of that because it is only voted by people in the UK. Many English people like to go there, so obviously they enjoy the city.

The rankings of the "World's Most Liveable Cities" is a more official survey that is recognised in the world, and Luang Prabang is not even in the top 100.

Vientiane is more fun than Luang Prabang. Even Pakse is more exciting than Luang Prabang.

Luang Prabang is good to visit for a few days only.

Why is Pakse more exciting than LP?  Pakse is much smaller in population and less developed than LP?

I would live to visit Pakse and Savannakhet in the future. Never been there or Luang Prabang.

Hard to believe LP won the award. It is semi city, semi rural place.

Vientiene should get it. It is city and has more beauties.

I am afraid of beavers! :ridingelephant

Title: Re: Luang Prabang wins world's best city award

In the US, beavers can be highly dangerous and the level of danger depends on where beavers are from.

For example, Texas and Southern USA beavers look mean but when you pet them they are very gentle and they tend to go with the flow.    However, beavers from west coast, northern and eastern USA look very gentle but when you get to know them boy they are feisty creatures.

My theory is that these beavers' actions and behaviours are related to political leaning (Democrat = bossy beavers) (Conservative = beavers that really enjoy life and tend to go with flow).

How are beavers behave in Southern China?

I am sorry to say up to now, I have not seen any beaver here in wild. I saw some in Matogroso Brazil.

Which sort of beaver can represent you in your ballot?

Tame inside with wild face or wild one with tame inside? :laugh1

Perhaps you did not try hard enough ;D to find one.  Do not fear the beavers.  Beavers are more afraid of you more than you being afraid of Beavers.  Are there rivers/lakes at where you are?
