  • In Laos, you are charged a fee for using public toilets such as in shopping centres. In many countries, access to a toilet is free.

  • In Laos, you are charged a fee to pump your tyres. In many countries, this is free. There is no such thing as self-service at petrol stations in Laos.

  • In Laos, you are charged for plain water in most restaurants. Many countries give a free glass of water to drink at your table on entry.

  • In Laos, you are charged a fee for requesting ice in your drinks in all restaurants. Many countries give ice in drinks for free.

  • In Laos, you are charged a fee to park your vehicle nearly everywhere. Many countries provide free parking lots, or free parking for a period of time.

  • In Laos, you are charged a fee to drive across the bridge. In many countries, there are free access to most bridges.

If you're a foreigner, you need to pay for a visa to breathe the air in Laos, or you will be sent back home.

Well, no, they expect you to pay up, or keep holding on until you're back home.

Sound like Uncle Sam USA. They love taxes and fee here too. And it does added up. Fee = taxes.

Yes but sometimes you can claim a tax refund in America. I just don't like paying for unnecessary things in Laos.

I also don't like the discrimination against foreigners where they have to pay more than the locals. I'm sure that everyone pays the same amount in America to enter a museum, regardless of how they look or where they come from.

That's wouldn't be fair if foreigner pay more for same services. It does get annoying too paying for every little thing. Business can claim expense, and loss on their taxes. But we pay takes on about everything here.

You are very knowledgeable about Laos and America. :)
