Title: Will You Marry Me
Post by john1089 on 16th Mar, 2012 at 7:17pm
Hello,

I am a American man who has been dating a younger woman from Laos for about 7 months now.  I wanted to make an impression with her so I decided I wanted to learn how to say and write "I Love You" in Laos.  When I Googled it, I was sent to this website which gave me what I was looking for.  I had told her many times that I loved her in English, but felt it would mean more to her if I showed the effort of telling her in Laos, and WOW was that a huge success!  We have recently been talking about the future  and marriage.  So when the time comes, I would like to ask her to marry me in Laos.  So if you could show me how to write it out and say it in Laos like you did with I Love You... That would be Awesome!
Have a great day!

Learning Lao words by reading it is useless.

Lao is a tonal language and you have to say it in a Lao accent otherwise it may not be understood. It's good to hear a Lao person actually saying it, so you can listen and say it correctly.

"Koy huck jaow" means "I love you".

She really was impressed that I took the time to learn how to say "I Love You" in Laos.  I also gave her a nice card and wrote it out in Laos too.

So my next step is writing "Will You Marry Me" in Laos and learning how to say it too.

Can you help?

"Koy yaak khor daeng ngarn gup jaow"

I don't have Lao font on my computer, so I wrote it on paper for you above.

Guys tend to say it opposite in Lao language because it is more polite. So instead of asking "Will you marry me", it's better to ask "I want to marry you".
