Construction of the Patuxai monument began in 1957 and it was completed in 1968.

It looks half finished in the background, so I would say that the photo was taken sometime in the early to mid 1960's.

"glasses people" are just people with bad eye sight, not smarter than anyone else.

I wish I was in Vientiane back in the 1950's. It looked so much better than today in my opinion. Now it's just full of poor beggars, prostitutes, viets, and falungs, not to mention corrupt commies.
Laos has no more character, history, culture, or pride anymore. It's just a country trying to survive now.

There's lots of human rights violations in China, Laos is no different.

Chinese people are still poor, that's why they come to Laos and Thailand to look for opportunities.

200 million out of 1.3 billion if not more :-[ still not good.
If it was that good in China they wouldn't try to get the heck out of there.Admin is right. If you don't have connection you have no other opportunity .

Back in the late 1800 the United State took out ad in some
of the european country for people to relocate in part of America.That's why you see alots of town in Texas that has deep root from Germany and such. What i'm getting at is why doesn't Laos take that kinda approach ? I mean not like
they have anything to lose.Only in America if you wanna become rich all you have to do is work hard and invest .

Forget politics, USA in some period, same as we have here now. at leat Atlas Shrugged showed some. ha ha ha. The greatest USA woman came from USSR. Ayn Rand. That is the virtue of USA. I like to move to Lao, its regulations and rules are so blurred at any point. That is tricky part. Maybe, any country has its tricks I just dont know.

Would be helpful if rules and regulations in Laos are transparent. I would estimate that water in Laos is about 80% muddy as of right now.

Probably worse in China = 95% muddy? ;D

Here we dont have muddy water, we have chemicalized crystal clear water. Which one you prefer? ;D. I prefer muddy one ;D

Not sure about Laos and China's laws and regulations. That's why I estimated them at about 80% 'muddy'. Hopefully Laos can become more transparent in the near future.

Go ahead and go cut a tree because we need lumbers. If you have to, plant 3 more trees so we can use them for the future.

In front of the monument, there are many stone benches with Beeline posts. Mobile Telecom?

Talking about your favourite terms 'absolute power corrupt' the Barry Huslim Labamba administration (the USA) runs a 4th world type politics which by far is worse than 3rd world politics (IRS, Bengazi, Fast and Furious).

Obama was re-elected because the public and mostly the media felt bad to have first black president to have destroyed the country through his first term. They'd thought that this dude can redeem himself during his last term.
