Title: Judy Garland in "Meet Me in St. Louis"
Post by Admin Saovaluck on 4th Aug, 2013 at 9:58am
Judy Garland starred as Esther Smith in Vincente Minnelli's "Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)", who fell in love during filming and later got married in 1945.

Meet Me in St. Louis is right up there among the best movies in the world, behind The Wizard of Oz. The movie didn't win any Academy Awards which is very surprising because the acting and directing was superb and Judy Garland sang some memorable songs. They are: The Boy Next Door, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Trolley Song, Skip To My Lou, Meet Me in St. Louis duet with Lucille Bremer, and Under The Bamboo Tree duet with Margaret O'Brien.

Meet Me in St. Louis has a striking resemblance to The Brady Bunch, the American hit sitcom television series beginning in the late 1960's, in that they are based around a large family life and there is a maid. Judy Garland's natural acting ability and musical talent makes Meet Me in St. Louis such an iconic Technicolor movie.

A surprised look on Judy Garland as Dorothy
in the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz

I am highly surpise that the Cowardly Lion's costume weighed 41 kg.

I didn't know that.

I just heard that it's quite heavy because it was made from real lion skins.

41 kg is quite heavy indeed to be carrying around.  Lion was on a 'liquid diet' as well because eating 'real' food was going to mess up his make-up or something like that.

It seems like you have been doing some research on the Cowardly Lion.

You are also getting a bit off topic. This thread is meant to be about Judy Garland's performance in Meet Me in St. Louis.

Speaking of Meet Me in St. Louis, Judy Garland did the moonwalk in this movie so Michael Jackson wasn't original. And I notice the Thais copied the tune of "Under The Bamboo Tree" for one of their songs. I just wanted to share some observations.

Ouch and ok and probably will be banned from here. ;D

I was looking the 'Lion' titled thread but cannot find one.

You're fine. People come here for information so I prefer not to stray off topic.

You can always start a new thread about the Lion. Here are some places in relation to Bert Lahr and his role as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz.

  • The Wizard of Oz Cast List
  • Pictures of Dorothy meeting the Cowardly Lion
  • Judy Garland accidentally tripped during filming
  • Judy Garland couldn't stop giggling in Oz
