The Wizard of Oz was the 1939 film that put Judy Garland on the Hollywood map, and brought her a special Oscar in 1940.

It is remarkable to think that a film which is now one of the most seen movies of all time barely made a profit on its first release.

The Wizard of Oz cost nearly $3 million to make and it didn’t turn a substantial profit until its re-release in 1949. This is due to its high budget and promotions costs, coupled with the lower revenue generated by children's tickets.

It's based off the Wizard of Oz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_Man_%28TV_miniseries%29 I thought it was pretty cheesy.

They had the right concept and would have been a good/complete tv season series(not miniseries). It was a poor choice in actors/lead actress. The script was horrendous. They spent millions in the series, you'd think the special effects would at least be close to movie like. Not even close. But, I'll save you time, not worth watching.

Thanks for the insight.

I guess I'll stick to watching the original Wizard of Oz movie starring Miss Garland, I never get sick of it.

For a movie made over 70 years ago, I'm amazed at how the special effects such as the tornado looks so realistic.
