Some photos of poor Laotians begging/panhandling on the streets of Vientiane in Laos.

The authorities are cracking down on beggars in Vientiane because they want to clean up the city. Unlike in previous years where we had kids and even adults capable of working but still going around begging, you now need to have some form of disability otherwise they will remove you off the streets.

The gap between rich and poor is still large in Laos.

We came across the same poor beggar woman yesterday.

In Laos, we have the rich eating at fancy restaurants and driving nice cars, while the unfortunate people are finding it very difficult to survive.

They sleep at Buddhist Temples or on the streets.

The beggars are not Vientianians, they come from the countryside to beg in Vientiane.
