Place to stay and eat in Vientiane
4th Feb, 2013 at 8:16am

Hi,

Been to lotsa places but never been to my own backyard so to speak. Decided to change that and finally made it to Thailand and Cambodia last year.

Been searching for places to stay and have narrowed the search to Salana and Ansara due to proximity to the river and some supposedly good restaurants.

Any nice food places to recommend nearby besides Makhpet? Last time I relied on a travel guide, I found myself staring at a highly recommended (but closed down) restaurant in Alicante with only a McDonalds in sight.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Larry,

There are just about any food you can find around Makphet, from Laotian to Chinese to Indian to French blaa blaa blaa. Try the local delicacies just opposite Lao Plaza left hand corner. Good atmosphere and food but a bit pricey comparing with others.

Hope you enjoy your trip here in Laos.
PMed you.

Thanks for the info! Will try your recommendations though I might skip duck blood salad. We'll see. ;p

Managed to get in touch with one of my ex-customer from Germany who's been there slightly over a year. So, I will have a guide. And having a friend in logistics line joining me too albeit coming the slow way from udon thani to here. Rail I think. Looking forward to this trip. Cheers!

No need to make any preparations, just go and have fun. Lao is a good place.  Be internationally local.
